Problems

According to RXList, a range of research has shown that the product can cause life-threatening liver failure and death.  Formerly made by Bristol-Meyers Squibb Company, Serzone patients have also complained that the drug caused exacerbated suicidal thoughts in children and adults.  The first signs of trouble involved the pulling of the product from shelves in various countries.

Discontinued Sale

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not initially take the product off the shelves when problems first arose, but they soon forced Serzone to be labeled with a “black-box warning.” However, as problems mounted, the drug was pulled from the market entirely in 2004.  Unfortunately, before the product was pulled, many patients suffered severe harm connected to their use of the product.   In addition, the FDA notes that many generic version of the drug are still available in the United States.  Therefore, it remains vital for those who may be affected this product to pay close attention to signs of medical problems which might be connected to the underlying drug, nefazodone.
